Training module (SI): Images
In this module, you will learn how to insert and manage images in your document. You will also learn how to insert and manage formulae.
Tutorial
Lawmaker allows you to insert images into your document, such as diagrams or maps.
This is the recommended way to include a form in your document.
Inserting images
To insert an image, place your cursor in the location where you would like to insert the image, then either:
Right-click > Insert image;
From the upper tool bar, select Insert > Insert image;
Select the Insert Image icon on the toolbar.
In the window that appears, select Upload then select an image from your locally saved files.
Only JPG/JPEG or TIFF files can be uploaded.
Once you’ve uploaded an image, it will be stored under File - you can access it there if you want to insert it again.
Fill in the other fields in the window:
Width / Height - specify the dimensions of the image (NB - this will automatically be set to match the image’s default dimensions. Making the image any larger may cause registration issues as it will be lower resolution. See the maximum image size warning below).
Image alignment - by default, this is centred.
Alternate text - it is compulsory to provide an Alt text for the benefit of users who use screenreaders.
Image caption - optionally you can provide a caption for the image.
Maximum image size
If your image exceeds the height of 228mm (or 235mm if there is no Image caption), it will not render in the PDF.
Also, images that are beyond 147mm wide will ‘spill’ over to the right of the page.
If your image exceeds either of these dimensions, please reduce the size.
Click Insert.
Inserting multiple images in succession
You may want to insert multiple images in succession, for example to add multiple images in a form.
This is possible but requires a specific operation:
Insert the first image using the steps provided above (under Inserting images).
Turn on Full Tags (see Using tags when drafting ).
After the existing image, place your cursor between Img block and Content. (See the screenshot below.)
With your cursor in place, insert an image using the steps provided above.

If you don’t insert the images in this specific way, you may get XML warnings in your document, which may cause issues with validation or generating a PDF.
Updating your image
If you have inserted an image already, but you want to update its information (e.g., to add a caption, change its alt text, or resize it), you can do so.
Just click on the edit icon to the bottom right of the image.

Example of the edit icon, to the right
The same window that appears when you insert an image will appear.

Exercises
Getting started
Before you start the exercises, you will need a document ready and open in the Editor.
You will also need an image ready with a JPG filetype. For convenience, if you want, you can use the below: right-click and select ‘Save image as…’, then ensure JPG or JPEG is the filetype. Give it a name and save it in your local files.

If you already have a document ready, you can move on to the exercises below.
If you don’t have a document ready, follow the steps below.
Exercise 1 - Insert an image into your document
At the end of an existing Regulation in your document, insert your image.
Exercise 2 - Edit your image
Edit the image inserted in Exercise 1 to give it a caption and make it left-aligned.
Exercise 3 - Insert a second image after the first
Insert a second image straight after the first (if you’re using the example image provided above, you can use it again.)
