Marking members with relevant interests
Introduction
In the Commons and in Northern Ireland, if a Member has a relevant interest in the outcome of an amendment that they are proposing or supporting, then they should be marked with "[R]" after their name in the amendment list.
How to mark members with relevant interest [R]
Open the amendment in the Editor (either by opening a temporary list, or opening the official list that the amendment appears on)
Find the amendment(s) with the member to be updated
Right click with your cursor on the Member’s name
Select ‘Add/remove relevant interest’
An [R] will appear after the Members' name in the list
How to remove a relevant interest marker
Open the amendment in the Editor (either by opening a temporary list, or opening the official list that the amendment appears on)
Find the amendment(s) with the member to be updated
Right click with your cursor on the Member’s name
Select ‘Add/remove relevant interest’
The [R] marker will be removed from the Members' name
Hints and tips
The [R] marker will stay with that Member throughout the lifetime of the amendment.
Adding a relevant interest marker to a Member will not update all the other amendments that the same Member might have their name against.
If adding a relevant interest marker to a proposer at the point of drafting the amendment, subsequent amendments inserted after this amendment will not include the [R] marker next to the proposer’s name.
