LoDA or temporary list of Amendments containing Tracked change deletions fails to generate PDF

Issue description

If you have an amendment in a temporary list or a LoDA, which contains a Quoted Structure in which a provision, or provisions, have been deleted with track changes active, then PDF generation may fail (if you have chosen Show track changes, which is selected by default in the Generate PDF window.).

For example, if you have deleted a subsection with track changes active, as in the screenshot below, then PDF generation may fail.

This applies for various sorts of provisions. For example, a deleted paragraph (a) element, definition, or Table block marked up with track changes will all trigger the issue.

However, note that track changes within the text of a provision should not trigger the issue.

Workaround

To get around this issue, take the following steps:

1. If you have already deleted the provision, undo or reject the deletion of the provision. (See warning below.)

2. (Optional:) Turn on Full Tags - see Using tags when drafting (This makes it easier to see the text within provisions as distinct from the provisions themselves.)

3. With track changes on, select the text within the provision and delete.

   • Don’t delete the provision itself but rather the text within.

   • If your provision has 'child' provisions, e.g. subparagraphs, you need to likewise delete the text within these provisions but not the provisions themselves.

4. Do the same for the number of the provision, deleting the text within but not the ‘num’ itself.

5. Once done, attempt to generate a PDF.

You should be able to generate a PDF with no issue, and the result will look identical to a complete deletion of the provision.

Note that there is another issue that means that rejecting deletions of provisions sometimes fails with the message ‘Cannot lock provision’. If you persistently get this and the change is not rejected, you may need to accept the change, then turn off track changes, then recreate the provision.
