Convert an .odt or .doc file to .docx format before importing
The import from Word feature only works with Word documents in the DOCX format (files with suffix .docx). Use these instructions if you are handling Word documents with an “.odt” suffix or “.doc” suffix.
Convert a .odt file into a Word file
Documents using open source office software (e.g. Legislative Work Bench) will often be saved as open document text (*.odt) format. To convert them:
Open the document in Word.
Use File > Save As to save the document as a ‘Word document (*.docx)’ (using the drop-down menu after the filename).
Convert an SI template document( .doc file) into a .docx file
The SI template saves documents in an older format by default (using the .doc suffix).
To convert them into .docx files:
Open the document in Word.
Use File > Save As to save the document as a ‘Word document (*.docx)’ (using the drop-down menu after the filename).
