Convert an .odt or .doc file to .docx format before importing
The import from Word feature only works with Word documents in the DOCX format (files with suffix .docx). However, some versions of Legislative Work Bench saves files as Open Document Format files (.odt suffix) and the SI template saves documents in an older Word format (.doc suffix).
This page explains how to convert those files to DOCX format.
Convert a .odt file into a Word file
Documents using open source office software (e.g. Legislative Work Bench) will often be saved as open document text (*.odt) format. To convert them:
Open the document in Word. It may be easier to open Word first and then open the .odt file.
Use File>Save As to save the document as a ‘Word document (*.docx)’ (using the drop-down menu after the filename).
Convert an SI template document( .doc file) into a .docx file
The SI template saves documents in an older format by default (using the .doc suffix).
To convert them into .docx files:
Open the document in Word.
Use File>Save As to save the document as a ‘Word document (*.docx)’ (using the drop-down menu after the filename).
